Gas in Spain > Demand for natural gas > Domestic/commercial market
Domestic and commercial market
The demand for natural gas in the domestic and commercial sector reached 52.4 TWh, having decreased by 18.5% compared to 2010. The negative balance was due to repeatedly mild winter temperatures.

The domestic and commercial market accounted for 14.1% of natural gas sales, which was two points lower than in 2010. The latest data available regarding sector consumption in the EU indicates that total natural gas consumption stands at 38% of the domestic and commercial market.
According to the latest Eurostat data, natural gas consumption per capita on the residential and commercial market when taking the EU as a whole was 339 kgoe, while in Spain it was 100 kgoe. These findings indicate that EU natural gas consumption per capita is 3.4 times higher than in Spain. However, this is very different if electricity is considered: it is rather higher in Spain (295 Kgoe) than in Europe overall (286 Kgoe).
