Investment
Material investment in 2010 amounted to 1.084 billion euros. This figure is less than the average recorded in the 2007–2009 period, but it is in keeping with years prior to 2007. This can be explained due to the investment allocated to building the Balearic Islands pipeline and the centre–east connection during this period.

Expected mid-term investments are being adapted to new demand estimates, characterised by a drop on the predictions made in the past.

The sector continues to be active in investments. To cite some examples: Enagás updated its 2010–2014 Strategic Plan in July, in which a €3,500 investment is considered for the 2010–2014 period. In August, construction began for the marine underground storage unit in the settlement of the Amposta depleted oilfield. This future gas storage facility, the Castor Project, will have storage capacity of 1.3 bcm and will begin operating in mid-2012.
