Evolution of tariffs
With regard to tariffs, on 1 January 2007, there was an increase, on 12 April (quarterly review) there was a reduction and on 12 October, there was another increase.
Overall in 2007, the energy term (gas price) for an average tariff consumer with individual heating increased by 2.5%, below inflation.

(3) These tariffs shall be applied by the distribution companies as from 1 January 2008 and until 30 June 2008, at the latest to all customers. Since 1 July 2008, the values indicated in T.1, T.2, T.3 and T.4 shall be considered as maximum values of the last-resource tariff, applicable exclusively by the marketers. The temporary period will have finalised on the day before (1 January to 30 June 2008), after which the natural and manufactured gas in Spain will be supplied exclusively by the marketer companies.

As from 1 July 2008, only those customers with an annual consumption of less than 3 GWh year will be able to apply for last-resource tariffs.
During a longer period and taking the year 1996 as a reference, the CPI increased by 38.9% up to the year 2007 and the cost of gas (including fixed term and based on official tariffs) for the average Spanish client increased by 21.4%.
