This consumption figure is greater than the highest recorded in history, in 2007, even though the cause of this position is due to the fact that this sector encompasses the industrial sector cogeneration plant demand, which continues to increase.

Due to the drop in sales in the residential and commercial sectors and the decreased demand in combined cycles, this sector has reinforced its leading position as the primary destination for natural gas in Spain, having recorded 54.7% of total natural gas sales in 2011.
