The Spanish gas sector has positioned itself with regard to the current energy scenario over recent weeks and on the basis of the Spanish Government's negotiation of the new energy model to be applied to Spain over the coming years.

Natural gas consumption during the first quarter of 2010 stood at 112 TWh, 6.4% higher than the same period in 2009. The driving force behind this increase was conventional demand (from the domestic/commercial and industrial sectors), which continued the upward trend first seen in December 2009.

15 February saw publication of the guide "Gas installations in architectural projects", sponsored by Sedigas. The publication represents an attempt to increase the integration of gas installations and architectural planning, for both natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas, or LPG.

Following publication of the decision to invest in developing the Larrau interconnection (on the part of European South Gas Regional Initiative (ERGEG)), the CNE has confirmed that the Midcat and Irún projects will be included in the forthcoming Open Season, with the infrastructure expected to be in operation by 2015.
