New economically sustainable energy model

The Spanish gas sector has positioned itself with regard to the current energy scenario over recent weeks and on the basis of the Spanish Government's negotiation of the new energy model to be applied to Spain over the coming years.

Gas consumption rises in first quarter

Natural gas consumption during the first quarter of 2010 stood at 112 TWh, 6.4% higher than the same period in 2009. The driving force behind this increase was conventional demand (from the domestic/commercial and industrial sectors), which continued the upward trend first seen in December 2009.

Sedigas has launched a new website which allows easier access to information. It will soon include new services such as gas sector statistics, a portal aimed at consumers and a European events calendar, among others.

Last Resort Tariff published

On 31 March the TUR 1 and TUR 2 last resort tariffs were published, applicable from Thursday 1 April.

Priority infrastructure for Europe

In targeting economic recovery the European Commission has selected 43 gas and electricity infrastructure projects. These include the Larrau gas interconnection venture, with a budget of 45 million euros.

Regulatory changes cause legal uncertainty

The Spanish gas sector has, on the basis of information published by the press on 26 March, registered its concern as to the legal uncertainty caused by continuous changes in the regulations, which are distorting the proper operation of the Spanish energy sector. This statement is based on information published with regard to the Royal Decree on Coal.

New guide to gas installations in architecture

15 February saw publication of the guide "Gas installations in architectural projects", sponsored by Sedigas. The publication represents an attempt to increase the integration of gas installations and architectural planning, for both natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas, or LPG.

CNE confirms Midcat and Irún interconnections for Open Season with 2015 timeframe

Following publication of the decision to invest in developing the Larrau interconnection (on the part of European South Gas Regional Initiative (ERGEG)), the CNE has confirmed that the Midcat and Irún projects will be included in the forthcoming Open Season, with the infrastructure expected to be in operation by 2015.

Spanish energy sector positions itself in Europe

On 14 January the Spanish energy sector presented a positioning document in Seville, intended for the European Council of Energy Ministers. Some days later Spanish Minister Miguel Sebastián announced the priorities of the Spanish Presidency in the field of energy.
