Dr. Christian Nagl is the Deputy Head of the department Air Pollution Control, Buildings & Registries. He is an expert in air quality management and climate change mitigation measures. He has gained several years of experience in conducting and managing studies concerning air quality problems on local, regional and national scale. His work covers technical, legislative and political issues of air quality management in national and international projects. He contributed to the planning and holding of successful workshops on PM10 and NO2 on behalf of the European Commission. Christian was project leader in regional climate change programs and contributed to developing climate change mitigation measures. Christian also participates in the European Topic Centre for Air Pollution and Climate Change Mitigation where he assessed local and regional emission inventories. As a component leader he was responsible for the development of a strategic action plan within in a Twinning project on the implementation of National Emission Ceilings Directive in Turkey. Within projects on behalf of the European Commission he was responsible for studies on the assessment of plans and programmes, on critical areas to reach compliance with air quality limit values, and on reviewing the PM2.5, heavy metals and PAH standards of the Air Quality Directive and the 4th Daughter Directive. Within a WorldBank project he designed an air quality monitoring network for Nepal.

He has gained extensive knowledge of implementing EU directives and transposing them into national legislation. He was vice-chair of the Working Group on Effects under the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution and is a member of several national and international working groups dealing with abatement measures, environmental impact assessment, guidelines and standards in the field of air quality assessment.
